Kathleen Johe
I was born and raised here in Alaska and I am in the process of completing a Bachelors degree in the Arts, as well as an Associates degree in Culinary Arts. Though I am a lifelong Alaskan, I am relatively new to the local art community. I have a beautiful family and, being in the most beautiful place on the earth, we spend as much time outdoors as possible. I have a great love for Mother Nature and all things natural, and so I try to let my art reflect some of that and thus, reflect some of me. I prefer to work with wood because I believe that there is little that needs to be done to bring out its natural beauty. I stay away from varnishes and stains and instead use only clear, natural oils and beeswax to condition the wood and let the wood speak for itself. In my drawings, I also let the natural shape of the subject come out. I think, in society today there is so much that we are trying to change about the world around us, that we never just sit back and enjoy what is already in front of us. I see loveliness and wonder in just about everything around me and I hope that you will see some in my work. Please enjoy.
