Brian Schneider
Brian Schneider Bios: Brian Schneider is a long time Fairbanksan currently teaching Photography and yearbook at Lathrop High School, his alma mater. Brian became interested in photography, especially black and white photography, while taking classes at Lathrop in 1978. Through photography I explore the world we have made before us and try and discover the unknown or the unobserved, not to discover new things but rather to rediscover the old that are hidden before our eyes waiting to be rediscovered. I work in what has become known as black and white traditional photography, exposing film developing and printing the result. I find this process to be enjoyable for its magic, mystery and challenges. I look for the subject matter of my images that are many times hidden in plain sight, ready to be photographed by those who slow down and take a closer look at the world around us. I often explore familiar territory around Fairbanks and Anchorage and I always find something new from these trips. My photographic subject matter crosses a broad range of subject matter, from the abstract detail of pealing paint, to the simple stand of trees, to an abandon old car, or set up still life objects. I hope to give the viewer a sense of the beauty that exists around us and to encourage you to slow down and look for the beauty that hides in plain sight. I hope you enjoy my work and thanks for taking the time to look.
